ENG-635: Special Topics in Professional Writing Workshop with Residency

3 credit hours

Students attend this course delivered during an intensive residency. Students must complete pre- assignments before attending residency, including submitting writing to be discussed during the residency Workshop, submitting a short review of the Faculty Book/Script in Common, and reading all assigned texts, the Program Book in Common, and the Genre Book in Common and viewing films, when required. Students are assigned to participate in Workshops in which faculty present various special topics in professional writing, including grant writing, developmental, copy-, and line-editing; publication practices; writing for electronic media; or writing for nonprofits. Other special topics in professional writing may also be offered. In addition to Workshop, the students attend required lectures, conferences, and readings and participate in cross-genre and interrelatedness-of-the-arts activities. ENG-635 students also view online required orientation sessions and participate in Small Group Discussions. Students submit residency reports and a Workshop evaluation. If a student takes ENG-632 as the MAW capstone residency or Graduation Residency, the student must also fulfill all graduating requirements and accordingly earns 5 credits.

Prerequisites: ENG-623 or ENG-625 and permission of Program Director or Associate Program Director.
