ART-280: Figure Drawing
Drawing from life enhances our abilities to observe. Working with the model fosters empathy. This class is essential for any artist planning to work with the figure. It is also relevant for anyone in the health sciences or social work who would like to see their patients or clients more thoughtfully. In class, students will work directly from the model. Through drawing in class, homework assignments, and sketchbooks students will gain understanding of gesture, structure, anatomy, composition and expression. Examples of the figure in art will be shown and discussed. Drawing materials used in the class will be primarily charcoal, pencil and ink. Grading will be based as much on growth and effort as on technical proficiency. This course can be used to satisfy University Studies requirements.
