AH-253: Survey of Western Art III: Modern-Contemporary

This course surveys the history of art from the mid-nineteenth century to the present. It is designed to familiarize students with the major artistic developments within the Western academic tradition, and to build their understanding of the key terms, themes, and concepts used to analyze and interpret the meanings of artworks. Class lectures, discussions, and assignments focus on applying relevant vocabulary such as the formal elements and principles of design to visual images of artworks, and connecting specific characteristics to their historical context and period/style. This course can be used to satisfy University Studies requirements.
