Painting I | Spalding University Catalog

KSA-120: Painting I

3 credit hours

This class is designed to offer students the personal, sensual experience of responding to what is seen by painting from observation. There will be discussions about use of the materials, strategies toward laying out a painting, use and recognition of color relationships, issues of pictorial organization, development of space and how all these things affect the content of painting. Some projects may lead to more abstract work. Examples of paintings throughout the last 500 years to the present will be shown. By becoming aware of the languages and traditions of painting, students will recognize and develop their own personal vision and sensibility. One field trip will be mandatory to look at paintings "in the flesh."
