KSAM-210: Darkroom Photography I

3 credit hours

This studio course introduces the fundamentals of hands-on photographic practice. Students will become proficient in all aspects of using a manual 35mm camera; as well as exposing, processing, and printing black & white film. Aesthetics and conceptual development of the photographic vision will be explored. The Darkroom Photography course will include class demonstrations, lab work, slide lectures, field assignments and critiques. Students will be introduced to the photographic medium and its history, beginning the semester with the construction of their own 4x5 pinhole cameras. Students will be challenged to further their everyday experience and dialogue with photography and its potential for visual imagery expression.

Prerequisites: Sophomore standing
