ART-395: The Digital Image through the Analog Mechanical Process

3 credit hours

This course focuses on the exploration of analog traditions in black and white photography and the screen printing process. The fundamentals of darkroom work for both processes will be covered as well as an investigation into the potential of combining these techniques. This course will concentrate on creative output while establishing a common technical and aesthetic vocabulary through in-class demonstrations and discussions. Works created will utilize digital, analog, and experimental image-making techniques while unlocking the potential of the multiple. Throughout the course students will read about and discuss the evolving idea of photography, screen printing, and use of the multiple.

Prerequisites: ART-145 or permission of the instructor
