ARTH-495: Special Topics: Art History
3 credit hours
Special Topics courses approach art history thematically and vary accordingly. They often focus on a particular period/style or movement, and closely examine the defining characteristics, key artists, exemplary artworks, and historical context more thoroughly than in general survey courses. Other special topics may include different artists, mediums, genres, creative practices, or prominent thematic tendencies, associated with western and non-western cultures, from diverse geographic regions across the globe. This course is designed to build students’ understanding of the key terms, themes, and concepts used in visual analysis and interpretation, as well as improve their verbal reasoning, speaking, and writing abilities.
