This course examines the constitutional foundations of criminal law and the principles governing criminal responsibility in the United States. Students study the elements of major offenses, theories of liability, defenses to prosecution, and the constitutional limits placed on governmental power in criminal adjudication. Emphasis is placed on judicial interpretation, case analysis, and the application of legal doctrine to contemporary justice issues. This course can be used to satisfy University Studies requirements.
