This course acquaints students with both foundational and emergent knowledge related to offering effective care and interventions for persons infected or affected by HIV/AIDS. By taking different approaches to exploring the impact of HIV infection and AIDS on individuals, families, society, and institutions that provide care, the course sensitizes students to the challenges HIV/AIDS has generated in public health, social policy, and social service delivery. Students will explore their own beliefs, values and approaches to HIV/AIDS- related issues as they examine cultural, political, social, legal, ethical, spiritual, and public health influences and consider the perspectives of people living with HIV infection and AIDS. Open to non-social work majors.
