RJ-101: Introduction to Restorative Justice

Moving beyond the traditional victim-perpetrator model of harm, restorative justice (RJ) promotes the idea of harm as a violation of relationships. In this foundational course, students will explore the historical and cross-cultural aspects of social sanctions and discuss an alternative theory to punishment and justice based on restorative values and principles. Students will examine the concept of harm and review various restorative practices designed to resolve harm such as restorative dialogue and consensus building. This course can be used to satisfy University Studies requirements.
