ART-335: Narrative Drawing including the Graphic Novel
Exploring the art of abstract and figurative sequential image making, this course develops students’ ability to utilize the language of visual narrative through iconic and representational forms. Students will develop individual styles of visual storytelling through the creation of short narrative works in a variety of genres that can include comic strips, graphic novels, photo-collages, web-comics, children's stories, and traditional and stop motion animations. In addition to hands-on studio work, we will discuss the role of the comic strip as a narrative, semiotic-rich device for artists and designers, and study the narrative techniques of contemporary media artists working in a variety of genres. The aim of this course is to develop students' ability to communicate effectively with images and also to strengthen visual and conceptual thinking.
