SW-357: Child Abuse and Neglect
This course provides a comprehensive introduction to child abuse and neglect from a social work perspective. Human service professionals in all work settings must know how to identify child maltreatment and domestic violence. Students will develop awareness of the extent of the problem and its effects on children, family dynamics and indicators of maltreatment, and effective micro- and macro-level interventions Course content includes exploration of treatment issues, the social worker’s role as part of a multidisciplinary team , and strategies for advocating for individuals and families. This course is required for Public Child Welfare Certification Program (PCWCP) participants and is open to other BSSW students and non-social work majors as an elective.
