Master of Science in Nursing: Nurse Educator Track
Spalding University offers the Nurse Educator track in the Master of Science in Nursing program. This track has been created in response to the critical shortage of nurse educators in Kentucky and in the United States.
The Nurse Educator track at Spalding is designed to prepare graduates for a teaching career in nursing in a variety of settings, such as schools of nursing, nursing education departments in acute care and special care facilities, and community and corporate agencies. Also available is a Post-Master's certificate as a nurse educator, designed for those who have a master of science in nursing degree and who desire to seek a position as a nurse educator.
The Commonwealth of Kentucky has nine universities that offer graduate programs in nursing; however, only three offer a master's degree with a nurse educator focus. There are over forty healthcare agencies in the Louisville area that have nurse educator positions and many are filled by nurses who are not academically prepared for their role, have filled the positions because of their clinical expertise, and would benefit from a program offering a graduate degree in nursing education.
