Bachelor of Science in Communication

The Communication program is engaged in the community; our award-winning faculty and students have been a vital part of Spalding for over three decades. Students will find courses range from the study of business and professional communication, organizational communication, political communication, media, persuasion, and public speaking. 

Our students work with top employers in the area for internships such as local TV stations WHAS, WAVE and WDRB, Brown Forman, the Kentucky Derby Festival, and Greater Louisville, Inc. to name a few. Spalding University’s Bachelor of Science in Communication degree prepares you to walk your education into the marketplace.

Communication Majors

Media Studies:

Bachelor of Science in Communication: Media Studies which includes the study and application of digital multimedia, blogging, editing, audio, video production, social media, story boarding, online communication, media classes, public relations and digital communication. Required classes can include Media Literacy, Intro to Documentary, Public Relations, Media Theory, Digital Media and Graphic Design Communication.

Communication Studies:

Bachelor of Science in Communication: Communication Studies course of study which allows students to design a program in tandem with the student's professional goals. Students take the required major classes and then choose specialized communication courses.

Students in Communication can add another major from another discipline.

Additional Minor Options for Communication Majors
Students in Communication can add a minor from another discipline. Potential minors include Business Administration, Marketing, Psychology, and Liberal Studies.

Accelerated B.A./ Master’s of Business Administration
Spalding University invites undergraduate communication majors to begin a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree as undergraduates. This early admissions process allows high achieving undergraduate students to earn nine graduate credits (3 classes) as undergraduate students.

Communication Minors

Communication Studies Minor (18 credit hours)
This minor is open to all undergraduate majors except B.S. Communication majors. Minors in Communication require 18 semester hours in COM (excluding COM 201). Students selecting the Communication Studies Minor have the opportunity to develop a high level of competency in written, oral, and visual communication skills, which are increasingly recognized as vital to success in business. This minor is a strong accompaniment to many other degrees, including Business Administration.

Media Studies Minor (18 credit hours)
This Communication minor is open to all undergraduate majors except B.S. Communication majors. Minors in Communication require 18 semester hours in COM (excluding COM 201). Students choosing Media Studies as their minor have the opportunity to learn and apply key communication skills, including negotiation, persuasion, and  strategic messaging and teamwork, skills that are transferable to a wide range of majors and careers.
