HS-330: Social Determinants of Health

3 credit hours

There is growing evidence that health outcomes for individuals are impacted by multiple factors often outside of their control.  Social determinants are elements that influence health outcomes and risk patterns across the lifespan. These outside factors, known as social determinants of health, are influenced by housing, nutrition, transportation, education, employment, and social services.  This course will provide an understanding of how the social determinants influence health outcomes including a focus on financial and political influences. The overarching theme of the course addresses how the social determinants of health adversely affect health outcomes and contribute to health disparities.
