Bachelor of Arts in Creative Arts
Program Overview
The School of Liberal Arts offers a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Arts.
The Bachelor of Arts in Creative Arts program offers a dynamic curriculum in creative arts with additional courses in creative writing and communication. The program adopts a transdisciplinary approach by applying creative arts to real-world challenges, going beyond the traditional boundaries of art to foster innovation and adaptability in a rapidly changing world. The program fosters exploration, collaboration, and critical thinking skills, transforming students into creative problem solvers prepared to engage with and contribute to the world.
Admission
Students are directly admissible to the Creative Arts program upon their admission to Spalding University.
Requirements
The BA in Creative Arts requires students to complete 120 credit hours — 49 hours of University Studies, 20 hours of electives, and 51 hours to serve their major, as follows:
- 15 hours in designated Skills courses
- 9 hours in designated Expression courses
- 9 hours in designated Application courses
- 9 hours in designated Action courses
- 9 hours in designated Transdisciplinary courses
Assessment
In the senior year, students enroll in ART 415: Senior Capstone in which they build upon their skills and demonstrate their ability to use the lenses of Expression, Action, Application, and Transdisciplinary modes of understanding to collect research and to prepare a body of work that synthesizes the liberal arts and art experience. Students will present their final assessment to a group of faculty who will determine aptitude and skill level within these four categories.
Creative Arts Minor (18 credit hours)
The Creative Arts minor is a chance to merge creativity and academics, offering an interdisciplinary learning experience that develops perceptual, problem-solving, and visual communication skills. Students will develop a sense of purpose and abilities, gaining skills that will complement healthy lives and careers. Students seeking this minor are not necessarily looking to be professional artists but would like to engage in a creative life while seeking their undergraduate degree at Spalding University. Students may create their minor from their choice of Creative Arts and other related courses. The only restrictions are that at least 3 courses (9 credit hours) must be in Art studio (ART), no more than 2 courses (6 credit hours) may be Art History (ARTH) courses, and no more than 2 courses (6 credit hours) may be in courses from other disciplines (CW and/or RS 370).
