ENG-635: Special Topics in Professional Writing Workshop with Residency
Students attend this course delivered during an intensive residency. Students must complete pre-assignments before attending residency, including submitting writing to be discussed during the residency Workshop, submitting a short review of the Faculty Book/Script in Common, and reading all assigned texts, including the Residency Book in Common. Students read Area Books in Common and view films, when required. Students are assigned to participate in Workshops in which faculty present various special topics in professional writing and may include writing for the arts and humanities, health and science writing, travel and food writing, writing for electronic media; or free-lance writing. Other special topics in professional writing may also be offered. In addition to Workshop, the students attend required lectures, conferences, and readings and participate in cross-genre and interrelatedness-of-the-arts activities. ENG635 students also view online required orientation sessions and participate in Small Group Discussions. Students submit residency reports and a Workshop evaluation. If a student takes ENG635 as the MAW Capstone Residency or MFA Graduation Residency, the student must also fulfill all graduating requirements and accordingly earns 5 credits.
