The School of Liberal Arts offers a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Humanities comprised of Art, English, and Religious Studies/Philosophy. While the focus of the degree is on disciplinary integration, it is possible to accumulate sufficient semester hours in any one of them to be eligible for admission to graduate school. Students take at least four courses in each discipline as well as four interdisciplinary seminars and an internship.

The Interdisciplinary Humanities major emphasizes the study of Art, English, Religion, and Philosophy through extensive opportunities for reading, writing, evaluating, and producing a variety of visual and written texts in the material, spiritual, intellectual, social, and artistic realms. Committed to the interconnectedness of disciplinary areas and methods; a global approach to the study of cultures; conceptual, methodological and problem solving abilities; research skills; and adaptability, flexibility, and creativity, the faculty of the Humanities degree provide leadership and direction to students interested in a liberal education.

A degree in the Humanities develops an advanced level of competence in the use of language and the exercise of critical thought, providing a basis for a variety of career options and professional choices. Each member of the Humanities faculty serves as an advisor to help students successfully complete their degree program and accomplish their career goals, and each member participates in the teaching of HUM 101 and HUM 448.

Admission
Students may declare the major at any time. Formal admission to the major occurs after students complete 32 hours of college level course work.

Requirements
All University Studies requirements must be met with a total of 120 semester hours required for graduation. One-third of the 120 hours must be upper division courses. For the Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Humanities, students complete 48 credit hours in the major. These include 36 credit hours in at least three disciplines, and HUM/SS-101: Inquiry, Discovery, Practice; HUM/SS-201 Special Topics in Interdisciplinary Studies; LS-452:Capstone Project; and an internship. One-half of the 48 credit hours must be upper division courses. Students must take one half of the credit hours required for the major at Spalding University. For the minor, students must complete 21 semester hours, including HUM 101 and two upper division courses in each of the following: Art, English, Religious Studies/Philosophy.

Assessment
In the senior year, students enroll in LS-452 for which, among other projects, they complete a significant research project reviewed by all faculty in the School of Liberal Studies.

Four courses carry the Humanities designation (HUM). All other courses for the degree come from Art, English, and Philosophy/Religious Studies.

Interdisciplinary Humanities: Concentration in Art
The School of Liberal Arts also offers a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Humanities: Concentration in Art. All University Studies requirements must be met with a total of 120 semester hours required for graduation. For the Humanities major, 48 semester hours are required, including HUM 101, HUM 300, HUM 448, an internship, and specific support courses. At least one-half of the semester hours applied to the major must be upper division courses. An additional twenty hours of art courses are needed to complete the Concentration in Art major.
