Occupational Therapy Doctorate (Upper Extremity Rehabilitation OTD)

PROGRAM OF STUDY

The Upper Extremity Rehabilitation (OTD) post-professional track provides an opportunity for occupational therapists who have an entry-level master degree in occupational therapy or equivalent to complete a 30 credit hour track. The curriculum is designed to advance students studies in the areas of advanced practice skills, research skills and evidence-informed practice focused on upper extremity rehabilitation. This track will be provided in sequential order over four trimesters. Each course is offered in a combination of online format, hybrid, and on site (for lab/experiential instruction).  The Upper Extremity Rehabilitation OTD post-professional track will admit practitioners on a rolling basis, which is typically, but not always, the beginning of the next academic trimester. OT 960Z Evidence based Occupational Therapy Practice Capstone is the final outcome course of the post-professional OTD track and is completed in a self-directed format after completion of the other 24 credits within the track. This track is formatted to address skill development and competency testing. Students are guided through the course content with unit-by-unit breakdowns of course content that includes virtual/on-site interactions between students and occupational therapy faculty.

Practitioners enrolled in the Upper Extremity Rehabilitation Certificate Program would complete the 15credits identified in the program of study. Certificate students would have the option to complete the Upper Extremity Rehabilitation post professional OTD track (including an additional 15 credits identified on program of study for the OTD upper extremity rehabilitation post professional track).

Of special note is the interdisciplinary focus of OT 965Z Wound Care in the Treatment of Upper Extremity Injuries; this course is available for enrollment by other health care professionals (disciplines such as nursing and physical therapists) with permission of the ASOT Chair. This course may be completed as an individual stand alone course outside of the certificate or post-professional programs. Completion of OT 965Z Wound Care in the Treatment of Upper Extremity Injuries leads to certification in upper extremity wound care.
