PSY-850: Forensic Professional Seminar

3 credit hours

The course applies material covered in required clinical and forensic-emphasis courses to professional development including establishing a professional identity within forensic and correctional careers, establishing ethical procedures when conducting the business of psychology, expanding professional networks while maintaining neutrality, providing trial consultation, and clarifying one’s role throughout the evaluation and testimonial process.  Given the litigiousness of forensic involvement, professional licensure grievances will be reviewed as will the methodologies of work-product reviews.  A central part of this course will include “mock” experiences as a neutral, court-appointed evaluator, a privately retained expert, and/or a trial consultant.  Opportunities will include administering forensic interviews and assessment instruments, report writing and other interdisciplinary communication, role playing, and providing simulated depositional and expert testimony.  

Prerequisite courses: PSY-730 and Forensic emphasis area or approval of instructor
