Undergraduate Admission Policy Regarding English Proficiency

Prospective students who attended secondary schools with a language of instruction other than English have a variety of means to demonstrate proficiency in the English language.

Applicants may demonstrate English proficiency through any of the following:

  • ACT English sub-score of 18 or higher
  • SAT I Critical Reading score of 450 or higher
  • TOEFL-iBT score of 75 or higher (Internet-based format)
  • TOEFL-PBT score of 535 or higher (paper-based format)
  • IELTS scores of 6.0 overall, or 5.0 or above in each category
  • Duolingo: 105 or higher
  • AP: English Language and Composition score of 4 or higher
  • IB: 5 or higher on the English Language and Literature exam

Students may also demonstrate English proficiency by evidencing:

  • The completion of two consecutive years of full-time high school in the United States, or a high school where English is the primary language of instruction, with a grade of C or higher in English. Official transcripts required, or
  • Students with post-secondary experience may also demonstrate proficiency through the completion of two consecutive years of full-time university/college in the United States, or where English is the primary language of instruction, with a grade of C or higher in the equivalent of ENG 109 or ENG 110.
