This knowledge-based course expands upon the material learned in social work research classes at the undergraduate or foundation level. Students will demonstrate competence in the knowledge, values and skills necessary to engage in research-informed practice and practice-informed research. Course content focuses on evaluating anti-oppressive service delivery in social work practice. Students develop a critical appreciation of and the ability to conduct research and program evaluation. Through the integration of a service-learning project, or other project based learning,  students gain skills and knowledge for determining the effectiveness of practice and the critical use of research in social work decision-making. Moreover, the course will assist students in learning to write research reports necessary for the dissemination of information used to change and/or improve systems at the micro, mezzo, and macro levels of practice. A successful outcome of the course will be that students view research as a core component of ethical practice, gain a set of tools to utilize in their social work careers, and employ a strengths perspective that advances human rights.

Prerequisite: Admission to MSW Program.
