HS-440: Health Promotion & Human Behavior

3 credit hours

This course will explore innovative health promotion strategies to enhance positive health behaviors. The course will cover the development of health promotion activities at the individual and group level.  Using the Health Belief Model, students will explore how human behavior influences a person’s willingness to change.  The use of motivational interviewing will be introduced as students conduct needs assessments in developing teaching plans. Special focus will include how to lead the learning function; andragogy theories; the ADDIE model; and non-traditional learning interventions.  Special emphasis will be placed on needs assessment and evaluation.  The health concepts introduced in HS-310 Personal Health and Wellness will be extended to include groups and the community.
