Child/Adolescent/Family Emphasis
This emphasis area was developed because of the increased demand for professional psychologists to serve children and families and accepted its first class in the Fall of 2002. Applicants who are interested in providing services primarily to this clientele are encouraged to consider this program of study. Dr. DeDe Wohlfarth is the director of the program and will serve as advisor to all CAF students. In addition to the course changes - group therapy for children and adolescents, developmental disabilities, pediatric psychology, couples therapy, and a two-semester course in child psychology and treatment - this emphasis area has designed a dissertation sequence to ensure that the dissertation is completed before the student leaves for internship. The expectation is that the dissertation topic will be in the area of children and families and will be chaired by a faculty member experienced in this area. In addition to the coursework, the student will be placed on at least one therapy practicum devoted to work with children and families and will seek an internship that provides services to children.
