Undergraduate Honor Societies

Delta Epsilon Sigma
Spalding University is affiliated with Delta Epsilon Sigma, a scholastic honor society for students, faculty, and alumni of universities with a Catholic tradition, through Spalding's chapter, Delta Iota. The purposes of the society are to foster scholarly accomplishments, to foster scholarly activities, and to encourage a sense of intellectual community among its members. To be eligible for membership in the society, candidates must have a record of outstanding academic accomplishment, shown dedication to intellectual activity, and accepted their responsibility of service to others.

Kappa Gamma Pi
Spalding University is affiliated with Kappa Gamma Pi, a national honor society for graduates of Catholic colleges and universities. Spalding has the privilege of nominating graduates of outstanding academic achievement who have also demonstrated qualities of leadership in campus or civic activities. A maximum of 10 percent of the graduating class may be named to the society.

Lambda Pi Eta
Spalding University is affiliated with Lambda Pi Eta, a national honor society recognizing excellence in the discipline of communication. Lambda Pi Eta is open to undergraduate students majoring in communication who have superior academic records. The goals of Lambda Pi Eta include the recognition of outstanding scholastic achievement and the professional development of communication majors.

Phi Alpha
Spalding University is affiliated with Phi Alpha National Social Honor Society through its chapter, Theta Tau. The purpose of Phi Alpha is to encourage superior scholarship in social work education and to advance excellence in social work practice. Members must have been accepted into the School of Social Work. BSSW students must have achieved Junior status, completed 10 credit hours of required social work courses, achieved an overall grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, and achieved a 3.25 grade point average in required social work courses. Graduate students must have a minimum of one term of course work and a grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.

Pi Theta Epsilon
Spalding University is affiliated with Pi Theta Epsilon, a national honor society recognizing excellence in occupational therapy. Pi Theta Epsilon's mission is to support the practice of occupational science and the practice of authentic occupational therapy by promoting research and other scholarly activities by its members. Eligibility requirements include superior scholarship, demonstration of scholarly work dedicated to intellectual and practice activity, and attainment of at least nine credit hours in the professional master's program in occupational therapy.

Psi Chi
Spalding University is affiliated with Psi Chi, the National Honor Society in Psychology. The society is open to both undergraduate students who are in the upper 15 percent of their class and graduate students who maintain a minimum of B in their course work.

Sigma Beta Delta
The Sigma Beta Delta National Honor Society in Business, Management, and Administration was established to recognize, encourage, and promote personal and professional improvement and a life distinguished by honorable service to humankind. Eligible business students must rank in the upper 20 percent of the junior and senior class. Membership is by faculty invitation only.

Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing
Sigma Theta Tau, the International Honor Society of Nursing through the University's local chapter, Iota Gamma, recognizes superior achievement, encourages leadership development, fosters high nursing standards, stimulates creative and scholarly endeavors in the professional practice of nursing, and strengthens commitment to the ideals and purposes of the profession. Membership is an honor granted to students in baccalaureate and graduate nursing programs who have demonstrated excellence in their performance.

Eligibility criteria for nomination to membership: undergraduate students must have completed one-half of the nursing curriculum, rank in the upper 35 percent of their class, and have at least a 3.00 grade point average; graduate students must have an earned BSN, completed at least one-fourth of required graduate nursing credits, earned a grade point average significantly higher than the minimum requirements for graduation (ordinarily 3.5), and demonstrated leadership potential.
