Adult Psychology Emphasis
The Adult Psychology Emphasis-Area (APE-A) will provide specific training in understanding people in their relationships with one another. While not losing sight of people as individual agents, this emphasis area will provide the student with educational and training experiences that focus on theory, research, and practice regarding interpersonal relationships in clinical settings, work settings, educational settings, organizational settings, and personal contexts. Relationships in all these settings are a central focus for the professional psychologist. Included in the focus on relationships will be an emphasis on knowledge of self that is fundamental to establishing good interpersonal relationships with others in all contexts. Understanding the self-in-relationship will be examined in the context of individual moral responsibility toward self and others. In addition, understanding relationships will be examined from a social justice perspective, with a particular emphasis on gender equality and gender equity.
