SW-204: Introduction to Social Work

This courseoffers an overview of social work as a profession within the social welfare umbrella, exploring the profession's knowledge, values, and skill bases. Students will become familiar with famous figures in social work's history, as well as visiting local social work agencies. The course emphasizes social work's social justice roots, varied career paths and fields of practice in the profession, licensure and regulation, education requirements, and factors essential to the selection of social work as a career. Special attention is given to global, multicultural, and diversity aspects of social work as a profession. Open to those considering social work as a major.
