ART-265: Typography II
3 credit hours
Building upon the lessons in Typography I, we will get down to working with words and letterforms in both graphic design and art contexts, exploring what really is “readable.” There will be a balance between functional assignments involving the nuts and bolts of good type: hierarchy and layout; and there will be an expressive component: calligraphy, lettering, illustration. Ask yourself what IS “Beautiful Writing?” Projects may include three-dimensional, sequential page or time-based assignments, not limited to motion typography, creation of their own typefaces/ treatments, and a thorough engagement with your own writing. This course can be used to satisfy University Studies requirements.
