ART-320: Collage & Assemblage
3 credit hours
From the European avant-garde movements in the early 20th century to culture jamming in the late 20th century, artists have long been interested in subverting existing objects, images, and technologies to alter mainstream narratives. In this course, students are challenged to deconstruct 2D print images from magazines and books, and 3D found objects. Project challenges are then solved by recombining pictorial elements and materials to arrive at new artworks. Sound physical construction, cohesiveness and the making of meaning are primary goals.
