OT-955: Occupations and Complex injuries of the Upper Extremity
The course will introduce the highly specialized treatment area of work environment injuries and Hand Therapy. The course will focus on basic science treatment principles for wound healing, pathophysiology, evaluation and clinical reasoning necessary for the treatment of crush, replantation, tendon laceration, burns and complex fractures. The student will develop evidence-based treatment skills to include the application of physical agent modalities and the fabrication of custom orthotics for the protection and correction of pathology. This course will have an evidence-based research project identifying current treatment concepts. The course will offer students basic management skills necessary for hand therapy billing and coding for managing staff in the treatment in an upper extremity rehabilitation clinic.
