ART-283: The Object, Mass Production and Multiples
3 credit hours
This course focuses on the in-depth study of the multiple and its impact on the aura of the object. Students will experiment with press molds, plasma and laser cutting, and bookmaking (among other techniques) to invent collections of objects that carry meaning as a group. Lectures will be supported with in-depth readings that focus on the culturally significant aspects of mass production, and emphasis will be placed upon the conceptual rigor that surrounds the student’s body of work. Technical demonstrations and assistance will be provided as appropriate.
