Bachelor of Science in Health Science
The Bachelor of Science Health Science program is designed for students whose career goal is to work in health systems or organizations providing health related or human services to individuals, groups, and communities. The degree requirements are provided 100% online through the Universities learning management system.
The Bachelor of Science Health Science program (BSHS) is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the healthcare industry, as well as the skills and knowledge necessary to pursue a variety of careers within this field. The BSHS degree is designed for students to complete an undergraduate education that is enriching personally and academically as entry into the workplace or as providing the foundation for admission to healthcare graduate degrees. This highly diverse degree prepares students for both non-clinical positions such as healthcare management, medical sales, health promotion, healthcare research, as well as meeting the admission requirements for graduate degrees in occupational therapy, athletic training, and physical therapy.
Degree tracks include:
- Bachelor of Science in Health Science – Entry Level Athletic Training is a 3 + 2 program which prepares students to complete degree requirements after the Junior Year and begin Athletic Training graduate degree courses in their senior year. Upon receiving the bachelor’s degree, students continue on for the final year in the Athletic Training graduate program.
- Bachelor of Science in Health Science – Preparation for Occupational Therapy is designed for students wishing to apply for the Doctor of Occupational Therapy upon graduation.
- Bachelor of Science in Health Science – OTA to BSHS is a program desired to fast-track occupational therapy assistants into the Doctor of Occupational Therapy program. Students are able to transfer up to 90 credit hours by utilizing the academic policy related to transfer credits equivalency.
- Bachelor of Science in Health Science – Early Entry Physical Therapy is a 3 + 3 option for students to enter the DPT Program after their junior year. Students are awarded the Bachelor of Science in Health Science degree after completing the first year DPT Program coursework.
- Bachelor of Science in Health Science – Second Bachelor's Degree Track is an option for DPT Program applicants to complete a second bachelor’s degree in preparation for the graduate DPT Program. Students are awarded Bachelor of Science in Health Science degree after completing the first year DPT Program coursework and are eligible to apply for admission to the graduate DPT Program if academic progression criteria are met.
- Bachelor of Science in Health Science – Healthcare Management is for students interested in pursuing leadership positions within the health care field. Upon graduation, students are well positioned to pursue a master’s degree in business communication.
- Bachelor of Science in Health Science – Interdisciplinary Studies prepares the student at the generalist level focusing on the scientific research and study of health, including how to improve health outcomes. Because the discipline is so broad, students are encouraged to select a minor within the open electives which allows them to specialize in an area of interest.
- Bachelor of Science in Health Science – Professional Studies is an accelerated program for students who have an associate’s degree and are have a current professional license or certification in a healthcare field. Fields include, but are not limited to, physical therapist assistant, surgical technician, respiratory therapy assistant, X-ray technician, and ultrasound technician. Students are able to transfer up to 90 credit hours by utilizing the academic policy related to transfer credits equivalency.
