This course examines the experiences of women and transformations in gender norms as lenses to explore the history of the United States beginning with the invasion of North America by Europeans and ending with the conclusion of the Civil War. Through primary and 
secondary research and readings, students will examine how the intersectionality of gender, race, class, region, and ethnicity have shaped women’s free and unfree labor, reproduction, social roles, reform activities, and political status. This course can be used to satisfy University Studies requirements.
