MSAT-525: Pharmacology in Sports and Rehabilitation

This course will introduce students to pharmacologic interventions for medical conditions commonly managed by athletic trainers. Pharmacologic interventions related to circulatory, digestive, endocrine, immune, lymphatic, musculoskeletal, nervous, respiratory, reproductive, and urinary systems will be discussed. This will include categories of drugs, generic and trade names of common drugs, indications, contraindications and potential side-effects of drugs commonly used by athletically active individuals across the lifespan. Issues related to potential drug interactions and how drug use may influence the individual’s response to activity, rehabilitation, performance and other therapeutic interventions will also be discussed.
