Students wishing to extend their independent study over two semesters begin ENG-654: Extended Writing
Enrichment, the first part of the enriched independent study. The student and mentor create an Independent
Study Plan, which includes extensive assignments of original writing, to be completed during ENG-654 and
ENG-655, the second part of the enriched independent study. The student typically studies with the same
mentor for ENG-654 and ENG-655. ENG-654 is not a required course but is an elective students may take to
work on a project or to work in another area of concentration. Students submit other assignments throughout
the course, including evaluations and an updated student curriculum vitae. After the completion of ENG-654,
students enter ENG-655 to finish the second part of their writing enrichment independent study.
