Preface | Spalding University Catalog

Preface

A university catalog serves at least three purposes: to be of use to present or potential students and faculty members, to serve as a historical document, and to inform others of the nature and scope of programs available. No matter how hard one tries, such publications are never perfect, and some information is always missing or confusing. The various staff and faculty members listed herein will do their best to find answers to any questions the reader might have.

In order to ensure that accurate catalog content is readily available, the Spalding University Online Catalog (hereafter, "catalog" or "university catalog") on the Spalding University website will be updated a minimum of once per year, prior to the beginning of the new academic year. Accordingly, it is the official version of the catalog. Students are expected to learn and comply with all policies and processes included in the catalog. Students are responsible for knowing their own standing, from both an academic and behavioral perspective, in reference to the published policies, procedures, and standards of the University and of their college or school. The published policies in the University catalog will serve as the ultimate reference point for any decisions regarding student enrollment, retention, and graduation. Any possible discrepancies between policy at the unit level and the policies established in the University catalog are superseded by the University policy.

The University reserves the right to change the catalog at any time without notice. While every effort is made to ensure accuracy of information, the University reserves the right to correct any errors detected. Courses may be closed because of limited resources or facilities or canceled because of unavailability of faculty or insufficient enrollment.

A student is expected to complete the degree requirements set forth in a particular version of the university catalog. Normally, this will be the catalog in effect at the time the student is admitted to the major or degree program in which the degree will be earned. In cases involving a second major or minor, the applicable catalog is the catalog in effect at the time of admission to the first major or degree program. For the student who changes a major or degree program, the catalog in effect when the student is admitted to the new major or degree program will be applicable. As of July 1, 2012, requirements have changed for all undergraduate degrees and a minimum of 120 credit hours of course work is now required for all bachelor degrees and a minimum of 60 credit hours of course work is now required for all associate degrees. Students must complete the bachelor's degree within 10 years. Any student who is not enrolled for a period of twelve (12) months or greater will be subject to the degree and program requirements at the time of readmission.

A student is responsible for maintaining a current form of contact with the University. Change in addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses can be processed through the Registrar's office. All e-mail communication will be directed to the student's Spalding e-mail address. The Spalding e-mail address is the official address for all communication from Spalding University.
