HS-320: Personal Health and Wellness

In this course, students formulate a definition of health and discuss the many influences that shape our individual perceptions of health. This course introduces the essential factors that promote or challenge the development of personal health and healthy lifestyles, including nutrition, exercise, stress reduction, and mental and emotional health. The health-wellness continuum will be used to examine factors such as behavioral, demographic, psychological, and social forces. Cultural and socioeconomic factors will be examined that influence perception of health as well as health behavior. Tools for assessing health and risk will be explored along with an assessment of personal health behavior.
