Program Format:

  • The program is delivered 100% online. No on-campus visits are required.
  • Full and part-time options are available.  Both options consist of pre-determined series of classes designed to facilitate the scaffolding of knowledge. 
  • Upon admission to the program, an academic plan will be developed outlining course sequence.

Program Outcomes: 

By the end of this program, students will be able to:

  2. Apply evidence-based strategies to assess and address individual, community, and population health needs.
  3. Develop and implement integrative health programs, interventions, and policies.
  4. Utilize advanced communication and interprofessional collaboration skills in healthcare and wellness contexts.
  5. Evaluate the complex network that constitutes “mind-body” and construct an integrative mind-body plan for a wide range of clients.
  6. Utilize a range of Integrative Health Education knowledge, skills, and processes, especially when encountering challenging education situations.
  7. Develop integrative treatment plan metrics for outcomes across illness and wellness populations.
  8. Conduct research and contribute to the evolving field of integrative health.
  9. Promote ethical and culturally sensitive integrative health practices.

Admissions Requirement:

  • Completion of the Master of Science in Health Science application
  • Bachelor's Degree: A completed bachelor's degree from a regionally  accredited institution is required..
  • Official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended
  • Transfer Credit:  Students may request to transfer graduate credit for similar course work completed at another accredited college or university. The program director will review all requests and may grant a maximum of 12 graduate hours of credit as appropriate.  Academic credit is not awarded for previous work or life experiences in lieu of any course-work.
  • Minimum GPA: 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or interview with program director.
  • Statement of Purpose: A written statement explaining: the applicant's interest in integrative health; the applicant’s career goals/aspirations; and why the applicant desires to pursue a Master of Science in Health Science.
  • Resume or Curriculum Vitae (CV): A detailed resume or CV that includes academic and professional experiences, certifications, and any relevant research or publications.
  • English Proficiency: In addition to meeting the applicable graduate admission standards, international students who have not attended an English-speaking university must show proficiency in English by scoring 535 or higher on the TOEFL examination. Additional requirements for demonstration of competency in the language of instruction may be required by individual graduate programs. Any exemptions to the TOEFL policy require the recommendation of the School/College and the approval of the Graduate Committee.

Early Admission to the Program:

The Bachelor of Science in Health Science program provides an opportunity for high achieving undergraduates at Spalding Universitywho are majoring in Health Science or a related field to apply for early admission to the Master of Science in Health Science. Students interested in this program should consult their advisor early in their second year of school.

Early Admission Requirements

  • An undergraduate student currently working on the degree requirements for the Bachelor of Science in Health ScienceHS or related undergraduate degree should apply to the Master of Science in Health Science after completing 75 hours at the undergraduate level
  • The student must have an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher after completing 75 hours.
  • Before enrolling in a graduate course, the student must meet all admission requirements of the Master of Science in Health Science except for the baccalaureate degree completion requirement and be accepted into the graduate program.
  • Nine (9) credit hours (3 graduate courses) in the program will satisfy 9 credit hours in the Bachelor of Science in Health Science degree program.

Assessment:

  • Candidates for the Master of Science in Health Science are assessed within each course across the curriculum. 
  • Students are expected to meet all the requirements outlined in each course syllabus and are expected to achieve grades of “B” or better in each course in the program.
  • Student learning is assessed through a variety of measures, including self, faculty, and peer assessment. Utilizing best practices developed for online learning, the range of assignments include critical analysis of practice and ethical situations, written narratives, discussion boards, experiential exercises, professional presentations, research projects, and quizzes.
  • Students will complete a Capstone Project as the culminating assessment of the program.

Degree Requirements:

Requirements for completion of the Masters of Science in Health Science include:

Completion of all required components of the individual program of study including the Capstone Project with a final grade of B or higher. Students who earn one grade of C may remain in the program and are encouraged to work with faculty to improve study habits and grades. Students with more than one final course grade of C or a course grade of D or F will be dismissed from the program.

  • Although continuous enrollment in the program is encouraged and conferral of degree is encouraged as best practice, students enrolled in the program must complete the degree within five years.
