BIO-107: Biology for the Informed Citizen

3 credit hours

“Biology for the Informed Citizen” is a lecture, non-lab class designed to present the major concepts of biology to a non-technical audience. The class focuses on the major themes of: Cell Theory, Structure, and Function, Cellular Metabolism (Aerobic Respiration and Photosynthesis), Basic Mendelian Genetics, Biological Diversity, Evolution of Plants and Animals, and Fundamental Ecological Concepts.  Multiple examples are used to support the above themes derived from plant and animal models.  Where appropriate, examples derived from plant, fungal, or mammalian models are specifically highlighted to support student understanding.  This course can be used to satisfy University Studies requirements.
