OT-935: Introduction to Upper Extremity Rehabilitation

5 credit hours

The course will introduce the highly specialized treatment area of Hand Therapy. The course will focus on basic science treatment principles for wound healing, pathophysiology, evaluation and clinical reasoning necessary for the treatment of common musculoskeletal injuries and fractures to include the elbow, forearm, wrist and hand both chronic and acute. The student will develop evidence-based treatment skills to include the application of physical agent modalities and the fabrication of custom orthotics. This course will include an evidence-based research project identifying current treatment concepts. The course will introduce basic management skills necessary for coding/documentation and managing staff in the treatment in an upper extremity rehabilitation clinic.
