OT-945: Occupations and Work Related Injuries of the upper extremity

5 credit hours

The course will provide an overview of the highly specialized treatment area of work environment injuries and Hand Therapy. The course will focus on basic science treatment principles for wound healing, pathophysiology, evaluation and clinical reasoning necessary for the treatment of cumulative trauma disorders, ergonomics, work programs, physical agent modalities and functional capacity evaluations. The student will develop evidence-based treatment skills to include the application of physical agent modalities and the fabrication of custom orthotics. This course will have an evidence-based research project identifying current treatment concepts. The course will offer students basic management skills necessary for worker’s compensation billing and coding for managing staff in the treatment in a upper extremity rehabilitation clinic.
