EPP-650: Organizational Structures and Operations

3 credit hours

This course will research and analyze the importance of visioning and how modeling values, beliefs, and attitudes can inspire others to higher levels of performance. Systems thinking related to student learning and achievement and the role of shared decision-making in school improvement planning will also be investigated and presented. Case studies and interactions with local school district leaders will be evaluated to understand the laws, regulations, and policies under which schools must function for legal and ethical implications regarding the implications on principal leadership and student achievement. An overview of public school finance will also be included, with an emphasis on Kentucky practices for allocating staff, purchasing and model procurement, and activity fund accounting. The various operational functions of a school district and their impact on schools and student learning will be examined.
