ARTH-306: Theories of Art in Society
3 credit hours
You know you can find Art in museums, but can you find it in the world? This course examines the history of artists and writers who have argued yes! Following a brief introduction to models for integrating art and life, we will seek art in a variety of environments—natural, urban, social, and therapeutic. We will consider art that seeks to intervene with ecological and communal degradation and critically examine the responsibilities and risks of art that engages in activism and public memory. This course can be used to satisfy University Studies requirements.
