ARTH-420: Feminism and Queer Theory in Visual Culture

This course critically examines the intersecting roles that gender, sexuality, race, and class play in the history and contemporary practice of fine art as well as across visual culture more broadly. Through studying cultural artifacts ranging from paintings and sculptures to advertisements and music videos, students will gain tools to dissect how visual images shape cultural consciousness. Readings and in-class discussions will engage with interdisciplinary sources and diverse perspectives. This course can be used to satisfy University Studies requirements.
