PSY-590: Professional Development Seminar

This course will be designed to acclimate new doctoral students into the SOPP and into the profession of clinical psychology. Students will learn about the NCSPP and APA competencies expected of them, including the knowledge, skills and attitudes that accompany each. Students will also be introduced to the Kentucky Psychological Association. Students will be introduced to concepts such as self-care, self-assessment, professional address, professional conduct, professional speaking, professional writing and APA style, among others. Further, students will be given an introduction to the ethics of being a professional psychologist and the APA ethics code. Finally, School-related topics such as emphasis areas, research interest groups, practicum, internship etc. will be of focus.
