SW-616: Addictions in Society
2 credit hours
This course provides an overview of approaches to understanding addiction and the impact of addictions, with particular attention to chemical dependence. The course considers social, psychological, and biological processes. The course analyzes addictive behaviors and the processes involved in change. It considers addiction in a cultural context, including the role of diversity and difference. Also, it examines the impact chemical dependence has on health care, criminal justice, and social service systems.
Prerequisite: Admission to MSW Program.
