PSY-810: Chemical and Psychological Addictions

This course introduces the theory, research and therapy practices within the field of Addictions. Emphasis will be placed on the students’ understanding and skill development of strategies, procedures, and interventions for the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of substance abuse and addictive disorders. Topics include identification and diagnosis of addiction and the individual effects, content and basic assumptions of different treatment modalities, organization of comprehensive treatment strategies, and addiction as a primary or as a dual diagnosis. The course also covers participation as multidisciplinary team member, confidentiality, as well as other ethical and legal issues within the field of Addictions.
